Development of Laem Chabang Port Q & A Interesting Facts Progress Link Contact

In Phase 3 development, modern machinery and technology will be installed to accelerate work processes, deliver faster services, and reduce pollution.

The new equipment will include:

  • Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC) to lift containers out of or onto trucks at yards behind terminals.
  • Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) to transport containers between yards and front ports.
  • Gantry Cranes to lift two 20-feet containers simultaneously. This crane is used for lifting containers out of or onto vessels.
  • Electric Dredging: Dredgers powered partially or fully by electrical energy will be employed. Being clean energy, electrical power will not pollute the environment. However, electric dredgers are appropriate for channel maintenance only.
  • Cold Ironing: This system provides shoreside electrical power to vessels at quays. The service will cut dependence on diesel-powered generators. Using clean energy, cold ironing serves power, lighting, cooling, heating and air-conditioning systems on vessels.
  • e-Port: Comprehensive electronic services will be introduced with less paperwork involved; a hi-speed communications network shared by the Customs Department, Laem Chabang Port, and other ports will be launched. A Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) & Electronic Seal-based checking system will also be in use at checking posts.
